podcast editing is overrated
i think people put way too much emphasis on editing in podcast production... like whats the point of cutting out every single um or pause?? it sounds so unnatural and fake... i mean ive listened to some podcasts where theyre trying to make it sound like a movie or something and its just not necessary... sometimes the mistakes and imperfections are what make it sound real... what do you guys think??

recording podcast intros with shure sm7b vs rode nt1
so ive been messing around with recording podcast intros and im stuck between using my shure sm7b or rode nt1. both sound pretty good to me but im wondering if anyone else has experience with these mics. i mean the sm7b is a classic but the nt1 is supposed to be way quieter. has anyone compared them side by side? im using a focusrite scarlett interface btw. also is it better to record in a treated room or just use a portable vocal booth? tbh im not sure whats more important rn
Help: Which audio interface gives the cleanest sound when I record my film‑photography podcast episodes?
Alright, I keep mixing my love for grainy 35mm with my endless rant‑sessions about gear. When I finally sit down to talk about the latest roll, I need an interface that won’t color the sound the way a cheap mic does. So, quick poll – pick the one you’re actually using and tell us why you stuck with it:
- Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (3rd Gen) – cheap, reliable, “does the job”
- Universal Audio Apollo Twin X – high‑end conversion, built‑in UAD plugins, worth the price?
- PreSonus Studio 68c – decent I/O, decent price, claim it’s “transparent”
- RME Babyface Pro FS – boutique, low latency, “audio‑engineer’s dream”
- Other (comment with model & why)
Drop a line with your choice and a short sentence on the biggest win (or nightmare) you’ve had with that box. Bonus points if you can name a specific episode where the interface saved a bad mic setup.
I’ll tally the results and post a mini‑guide on matching interface specs to your typical film‑photo workflow (like syncing B‑roll shutter clicks to narrative beats).
Need help with noisy remote interviews—what's a quick fix?
So I'm in the middle of building a weekly series, and every time a guest talks remotely I end up with that infamous hiss, the occasional bird‑song, and my own voice overdubbing in the mix because the levels on Zoom were a mess. I've got all these raw MP3s in my Dropbox, but I'm tired of hunting for a fancy plugin solution—just want a straight‑up recipe that keeps the dialogue clear and removes background hiss without wasting days tweaking settings.
I've tried a few tricks so far: I pulled a compressor with a very slow attack to let the sudden chatter through, then tossed a mild EQ filter at the high‑end, thinking that would dampen the hum, but it barely cuts it. Also, the recording software keeps defaulting to 44100 Hz; maybe that explains the glitchiness, or maybe it's just that all the remote tools add a layer of noise I can’t peel away.
What are the easiest steps to get a solid clean track? I'd love a workflow: what format should I export from Zoom? Is there an OS X/Windows preset I should use in Audacity, or do I need to rent something from the local radio station for a quick pass‑through? Any short‑and‑sweet guide? And a bonus—how do I keep my session running fast, given that I'm a bit of a deadline person and the creative energy fizzles if I spend more than an hour in a sound‑check loop?
Honestly, if anyone else's heard my attempts sound a bit like a radio jingle gone wrong and has a killer quick fix—drop it below. Thanks!
