Help: just passed my first B737‑800 line check, what’s the next step?

just nailed my first B737‑800 line check rn. spent 12 hrs on the FCOM, ran the entire FMC/CDU prog, even cleared a MEL on the fly. feeling like i just got my wings upgraded. anyone got advice on prepping for the next type rating? a320 or maybe a320neo? also any tips on keeping the EICAS chatter down during ops lol. tbh i’m still buzzing from the final approach check, can’t wait to log more hrs.

  • cleared the 2‑engine start checklist without a hitch
  • did a full ops briefing with the PIC, nailed the descent profile
  • got a shout‑out from the chief for handling a minor fuel leak (melt) quick

anyone else remember the first line check nerves? share your war stories.

Just logged my first 10 hours on a Cessna 172S Skyhawk with G1000 – what’s next?

Finally hit the 10‑hour mark in my 172S Skyhawk equipped with the Garmin G1000 NXi. All the basic checklists, ADS‑B In‑traffic, and WAAS‑enabled GPS approaches are now second nature. The autopilot’s LNAV‑VNAV coupling actually feels smooth after a handful of mishaps.

Got a few questions:

  • Should I start pulling night ops with the G1000? My airport’s runway lights are only HIRL‑A.
  • Any recommended SOP tweaks for transitioning from VFR to IFR in this rig?
  • Thoughts on adding a digital standby instrument for redundancy?

Appreciate any practical advice. Not looking for textbook theory – just what’s useful in the cockpit.

Finally Got My Multi-Engine Rating

Was up at the airport all day yesterday, finally nailed the multi-engine checkride after months of prep My instructor was thrilled, said I made it look easy. Not gonna lie, felt pretty great myself. Now to start building hours and maybe look into a type rating for something bigger.

Electric aircraft hype is hurting real progress

Everyone’s buzzing about electric planes as the next big thing, but the tech is still decades away from being practical. We’re pouring research funds into battery weight limits while proven fuel efficiency upgrades sit idle. is the industry really better off chasing a fantasy when we could be cutting emissions with better aerodynamics and lighter composites now???

Why does my A320's ECAM keep spitting 2‑2‑2 after a 10kft climb?

just pulled the A320 out of a 10kft climb and the ECAM won't stop flashing 2‑2‑2 i double‑checked the bleed valves, all the packs are green, and the flight‑control law is still in normal weird thing is i was cruising at FL350 with a 0.78 mach and still had full bleed on both engines, so why is the system acting like i forgot to bleed?

anyone else seen this after a smooth climb? i swear my ops manual says it's a minor thing, but i feel like i should've known better tbh, my last 200h on the A320 were flawless, but this little glitch is driving me nuts any tips or quick fixes? rn trying to reset the ECAM but not sure if that's the right move.

autoland is overrated tbh

imo autoland systems r not as safe as ppl think they r... dont get me wrong they can b useful in certain situations but i think pilots r gettin too reliant on them. whats the point of havin a human pilot if ur just gonna let a computer do all the work?? i remember readin about a study that showed pilots who dont use autoland as much have better reaction times in emergency situations. idk maybe im just paranoid but i think we should b careful about relyin too heavily on automation

Do pilots usually keep handwritten flight logs or use digital tools?

just got my private pilot cert and starting to log my hours.

i keep a simple notebook, but i heard many use spreadsheets or the FAA logbook.

is it normal to keep a handwritten log? do people use digital tools? i want to stay organized but not overcomplicate.

any recommendations on what to use? also, how do you keep the log updated between flights? thanks!

airplane seat recline suddenly stops working rn

just realized my seat recline was jammed on the last flight and the flight attendant was like 'sorry no time we're on schedule' tbh that was a pain but hey the flight was still on time and the pilot handled the situation smoothly next time maybe check your seat before you buckle in or keep a spare elbow cushion in your bag lol

Electric Propulsion in General Aviation: Challenges and Opportunities for the Cessna 172

I've been following the recent developments in electric propulsion and its potential impact on general aviation. The Cessna 172, being one of the most popular training aircraft, could greatly benefit from electric propulsion in terms of reduced operating costs and environmental impact. However, there are several challenges that need to be addressed, such as battery weight and charging infrastructure. Has anyone heard about any upcoming projects or initiatives that aim to integrate electric propulsion into the Cessna 172 or similar aircraft? I'd love to hear about any experiences or insights on this topic.
