New queen gone again???!
I installed a queen a few days ago, set the frame in, and everything seemed fine at first. Then yesterday I came back to check and she’s gone—just like last time. The brood looks weird, no eggs, just a couple of old ones. The workers are all over the place, almost lazy. I even double‑checked my cage—no trace of the queen. Am I losing my bees to other colonies or did I just misplace her? The hive is buzzing like a stalled oven; the honey is flat, no sweet rush. I'm starting to worry the colony might collapse. Should I set a trap or just wait it out? Have anyone else seen a queen disappear this often? Need advice ASAP, or am I just overreacting? ...???
Finally got my UART working
I've been struggling with this for weeks... so I was trying to implement a UART protocol on my microcontroller and I just couldn't seem to get it right?? I mean, I've done it before, but this time it was like pulling teeth... I was starting to think I'd never get it working. But then I took a step back, re-read the datasheet... and it hit me - I had my clock speed set wrong. Such a simple mistake, but it was driving me crazy. Now that it's working, I can finally move on to implementing the rest of my project... which is a big relief. Does anyone else have any experience with UART on microcontrollers?? What were some of the challenges you faced?
ar disaster i need to fess up
sooo i was trying to do this ar project for the first time and i totally bombed it in like the most obvious way. thought i had the basics down bruv. was trying to layer 3d stuff over a product mockup but ohhh wait the calibration was all off. like my phone thought it was in a diff room lol. and i was running around like how it can't see the markers. ended up with this floating junk everywhere. sooooo dumb move. tbh thought i was a pro after watching some yt tutorials. but no. turns out we needed to calibrate the camera properly or something i wasn't doing. now i feel like a newbie again. 😅 any ar devs here wanna roast me? what was your biggest noob move?
Why does my sourdough hydration math from 'The Bread Baker's Apprentice' fail every time?
I'm getting consistently dense sourdough loaves using the hydration calculations in 'The Bread Baker's Apprentice' chapter 12. The book specifies 75% hydration for the final dough, but when accounting for the 100% hydration levain, the total water-to-flour ratio ends up closer to 68%. Is this a rounding error in the text or a fundamental flaw in the formula?
Details:
- Levain: 200g (50% flour, 50% water)
- Final dough: 500g flour, 375g water (75% hydration)
- Total water: 250g (200g from levain + 50g from final dough?)
- Total flour: 700g (200g from levain + 500g final dough)
- Actual hydration: ~35.7% (250/700) ???
Am I miscalculating the hydration when accounting for pre-ferment? The book explicitly states to ignore the levain's water when calculating final dough hydration, but that seems mathematically inconsistent. Has anyone else noticed this discrepancy or have a formula that accounts for pre-ferment water? I'm ready to burn the book and start a new hydration model from scratch. 🔥
Blue Rhino APOC5 vs Challenger MBC-50S Commercial Ovens: Heat Retention & Steam Functionalities for Bread Baking?
Looking for direct, unfiltered comparisons from actual users. Have you swapped between these two models in a commercial setting?
Specific points I want hashed out:
• Thermal recovery time post-parging in high-output scenarios
• Nuances in steam injection calibration - APOC5's 0.05 psi increments vs MBC-50S's dual-phase system
• How each handles multi-tiered sourdough baking (convection profiles vs natural draft)
Bonus: Does anyone have a before/after cost-benefit assessment for bakeries under 200 loaves/day capacity? Save time for us all.
Should I itemize deductions or take the standard deduction?
My W-2 shows $18k in state and local taxes paid... but I also had $6k in mortgage interest and $4k in charitable donations. The standard deduction this year is $13k. Does it even matter if I itemize? My CPA says the math is simple, but I’m not convinced. Tax code feels like a recipe with missing ingredients—everyone claims they know how it works, but no one can agree on the final product. What’s your approach? Do you itemize because you think it’s better, or just because you’re supposed to??
All-Grain vs Extract Brewing: Which Yields Better Flavor?
I've been experimenting with my home brew setup and I've come to a realization: all-grain brewing is superior to extract brewing when it comes to flavor profile. The control over grain bills and mashing temperatures allows for a level of customization that extract brewing simply can't match. I've done side-by-side comparisons of the same recipe using both methods and the all-grain batches consistently produce a more complex and balanced flavor. I'm not saying extract brewing can't produce good beer, but if you're serious about taking your brewing to the next level, it's worth considering the switch to all-grain. Anyone else have experience with both methods?
True Crime cases involving baking crimes or kitchen forensics?
I've been diving into episodes where food prep or pastry methods directly tie into crime scenes. Think ricin in a baked ham or a cold case involving a sabotaged cake order. Does anyone have recommendations for documented cases where bakers, food labs, or kitchen equipment (like a hidden compartment in a mixer) were key evidence? I’m curious about how often forensic teams analyze spice blends or flour traces as physical evidence. Bonus points if the case hinges on a 'toxic recipe' angle. 👻
Kicking it out vs kneading dough... same burnout?
tbh i get why ppl say baking is therapeutic but martial arts gets no love for mental health? imo hitting stuff releases way more stress than perfecting a soufflé 🤷♂️ my instructor says 'control the chaos' but when u get lost in a flour storm it's just.. meh anyone else feel like their soul is in the mosh pit when doing taekwondo? 🥋 or am i just overthinking?
when toddler meltdowns hit at 10pm lol
so my 3 yr old just turned into a tiny tornado at dinner time tbh. refused to eat, screamed for 20 mins straight, and somehow managed to spill 3 cups of juice. tried reasoning, distracting, even the 'we need to talk about this' voice. nothing worked. now im just sitting here with a kid who suddenly wants to snuggle but still has ketchup on their face. anyone else feel like they’re just a referee in a constant toddler championship? how do u even win?
ai can’t bake? need help debugging my bot's recipe suggestion
i just made a simple ai to suggest flour ratios for sourdough but it keeps saying 12% water?? i think it's a bug lol anyone else see this or maybe it's just how ai thinks of hydration?? help???
Sourdough crust flat, how to fix it
i'm new to this my loaf comes out with a flat, hard crust tbh i think i'm messing up the proof or the dough temperature lol any ideas what to change maybe i should try a different flour or increase oven temperature rn
What baking methods match kihon renzolu training in martial arts?
I train shotokan karate. My kohon repetition improves form progression via structured sets 3-5 minutes per drill. Seeking equivalent baking techniques that isolate precision through timed repeats without relying on recipe automation. How precise do bakers time flour-kneading stages similarly to solo forms drilling?
Which AI model would you let design your next sourdough recipe? gpt-4 vs llama-2 vs stable diffusion
quick poll rn. i’m trying out ai to figure hydration, autolyse, starter feeds etc. tested three:
- gpt‑4: concise steps, pretty solid ratios
- llama‑2‑13b: sometimes bizarre like 95% humidity lol
- stable diffusion prompt: spits out bread pics but no actual numbers which gave the most on‑point dough advice? vote + drop a comment if you’ve used another model or have tips
i’m curious if ai actually helps in the kitchen or just spams nonsense tbh
