Help: Reliable real‑time feeds for GDELT 2.0 Event Database (Asia focus) – which sources actually stay up?

I’m pulling together a nightly pipeline that ingests the GDELT 2.0 Event Database (v2.0) for South‑East Asian geopolitics. The official GDELT stream often drops packets or lags behind the live updates, and I’ve seen a few community‑run mirrors that claim lower latency.

Could anyone point me to:

  • Proven‑track mirrors or APIs that consistently deliver the full event stream (no throttling, no missing rows) for the ASEAN region?
  • Any open‑source wrappers (e.g., python‑gdelt‑v2, gdelt‑py) that handle reconnects and back‑fill automatically?
  • Recommendations for supplemental feeds (e.g., ICEWS, UN OCHA) that integrate cleanly with GDELT’s schema for cross‑validation.

I’ve tried the public endpoint (https://api.gdeltproject.org/api/v2/...) but it often returns 503 after a few hours. I also tried a community repo on GitHub (gdelt‑mirror‑asia) – it stopped updating last week without notice.

Any concrete URLs, GitHub repos, or even personal scripts you’ve vetted would be hugely appreciated. I’ll gladly share my own wrapper (Python 3.11, async‑io) if it helps the discussion.

Thanks in advance for the precise, up‑to‑date leads.

russia's ceasefire in ukraine is a joke rn

imo, lukashenko's comments on a 'potential' ceasefire in ukraine r pretty suspect tbh, can't just take his word for it history shows us that agreements like these r only as good as the paper they're written on anyone else thinking this is just a stalling tactic?

is it weird that i always overmix my cake batter??

so rn i'm making a cake and i'm already knowing i'm gonna mess it up lol. every single time i bake a cake i get this smooth creamy batter and i'm like yessss... but then i just keep mixing and mixing until it's like tough rubber or something. i feel like i'm the only one who does this tho... do others just accept a slightly lumpy batter or am i the only one who's a cake batter psycho??

guiding errors on my DSLR during deep‑sky shots

so i’m using a cheap kit lens on my canon 80d. the images keep drifting when i crank the exposure to 30 sec. any tips? my mount is manual, no auto‑guide. is this a polar alignment issue or something else? also wondering if a 4x teleconverter helps or just makes it worse? let me know what worked for you guys rn lol

what's the deal with goalkeeper glove palm materials?

i was watching the recent soccer match and i noticed the goalkeeper's gloves. got me thinking, what's the best material for goalkeeper glove palms? is it still latex or has something better come out? maybe something from ancient greek pottery can give us a clue lol. i feel like there's a lot of debate on this

US vs EU approach to refugee crisis

I was reading about the refugee crisis and I feel like the US and EU are handling it really differently. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the EU is taking a more proactive approach? I'd love to hear thoughts from others on this. Is the US doing enough to help?

why does the zwo asi 290mm claim 2.8µm pixel size when real tests show ~3.5µm?

saw a recent post bragging about the zwo asi 290mm's "2.8µm" pixels rn but my own calibration frames and the star fwhm stats say otherwise

  • specs sheet says 2.8µm, but dark frames show read‑noise pattern consistent with ~3.5µm
  • independent review on astro‑review.net measured 3.48µm using a 50mm f/5.6 refractor
  • zwo's marketing blurb even mentions "industry‑leading" pixel size, yet the raw data tells a different story

tbh this feels like a classic case of overselling to get newbies to drop cash on the hype train. if you're considering the asi 290mm for deep‑sky work, double‑check the actual pixel pitch yourself or look at third‑party labs before you bite.

anyone else got receipts that prove the specs are inflated? drop your data lol

Ever take detours mid-route?

I was out on my bike ride tonight, supposed to take the usualroute back home, but I ended up seeing this tiny dirt path I'd nevernoticed before. So I veered off and took it, ended up riding through somepretty rough terrain for a bit. It was actually kind of exhilarating.Felt like I was exploring or something. Anyone else ever done this, where you just abandon your planned route and see where some random pathlets you? Like, is that a normal thing for cyclists to do, or am Ijust being reckless?

Comparing US and EU approaches to refugee resettlement

I was reading about the refugee crisis and I feel like the US and EU have different approaches to resettling refugees. The US seems to focus more on private sponsorship programs, while the EU has a stronger emphasis on government-led relocation efforts. I'd love to hear from others about their thoughts on which approach is more effective and what the pros and cons are of each.
