How do I use the 2022 Tesla Model S Autopilot to automatically bypass all tolls on a coast‑to‑coast road trip?

I read somewhere that the Model S's Autopilot v12.4 has a hidden "Toll‑Evasion" mode. Supposedly you just enable it in the settings and the car will:

  • Detect any toll plaza ahead
  • Switch to reverse gear for the entire toll segment
  • Log the distance as 0.0 miles so the navigation never charges you

I tried it on I‑80 last weekend. The car kept flipping between forward and reverse, but the odometer stayed at 0.0 miles the whole time. No tolls, no fees, nothing. Anyone else seen this feature? If not, is there a firmware tweak to unlock it?

Also, does the built‑in NavUnit X‑3000 need a special calibration to recognize the "zero‑cost" route, or is it automatic? Looking for step‑by‑step instructions or a firmware patch.

Thanks.

Just planned my first road trip

I've been reading about all these amazing road trips people have been taking and I finally decided to plan my own. I've always wanted to drive along the coast and stop at all the little beaches and towns. I've been looking at maps and guidebooks and I think I've found the perfect route. It's going to be a bit of a challenge, but I'm really excited to get out on the open road and see what kind of adventures I can find. I'm still figuring out all the details, but I thought I'd share my plans with you all and see if anyone has any advice or recommendations. Has anyone else taken a road trip like this? What were some of your favorite stops and what should I make sure to see?

Car broke down on the 80s, lesson learned

I was cruising 400 miles from town A to town B when the engine coughed and stopped. Pulled onto the shoulder, I stuck my phone out the window to call roadside assistance. A truck driver behind me waved and handed me a spare battery. Turns out my alternator was weak and needed a replacement before the next trip. Lesson: check that thing before you hit the highway.
