I’m at my wit's end with the constant “just trust the rigging crew” mantra that seems to dominate every rehearsal I’m in.

• We spend hours perfecting the blocking for a scene that hinges on a precise fly‑in at beat three, yet the DP (director of production) treats the fly system as an afterthought, like it’s just a “big curtain”.
• The prompt book notes a 12‑second descent from the batten, but the crew gets a vague “slowly” and we end up with a jarring drop that shatters the rhythm of the iambic pentameter in the monologue.
• When I raise the issue, the response is always “the actors will adjust”, as if the actors can magically compensate for a mis‑timed lift without breaking the illusion.

It feels like a systemic disrespect for the technical side of theatre. The fly system isn’t a prop; it’s a narrative device. When it fails, the audience sees the seams of the production, and the whole emotional arc collapses.

I need validation that I’m not being overly pedantic. Should I keep pushing for precise cues, or just accept the chaos and hope the audience never notices?

TL;DR: Directors treating the fly system as a decorative element is ruining the integrity of the performance. Am I the only one who’s fed up?

lol i just got back from a play and im still fuming rn. the acting was subpar and the set design was lazy. i mean who casts a 30 yr old as a high school student?? and dont even get me started on the 'drama' they tried to pass off as a plot twist. imo the whole thing was a mess. whats going on with the theater scene in this city??

so like every time i use these fuji superia 400 i just buy.. idk same with canon ektachrome tests i load and expose as per usual, but when printed all these has foggy texture like white spots with kinda color underneath but still i use same spools same lab i don't know why i shot this roll outside in daylight midday no clouds or haze, yet fog again the lab guy said no, not their issue maybe the camera? some kind old nikkor that's supposed good to 35mm but this it just feels wrong.

imo, people dont give enough credit to endgames in chess. like, i know its not as flashy as some crazy opening combo, but being able to convert a small advantage into a win is such a key part of the game. anyone else feel like this??

so i’m like midway through a game rn and my opp just like ‘let me think’ for, idfk, literally 2 hours. then they come back and do the dumbest possible move… bc obviously the whole time i was like ‘oh right i can fork this queen or whatever lol’. but no! they take forever then choose the worst defense?? am i the only one who is this annoyed by that, yknow?? it’s like watching a person ignore your entire monologue and then reply with ‘um here is a baguette’ in an acting group but chess version smh ???

i've been reading about some of these famous cases and it seems like profiling is always touted as this magic solution but honestly it seems like a bunch of nonsense most of the time. take the zodiac killer for example - all these 'experts' had their theories but nothing panned out. profiling just seems like a way to make an educated guess and even then it's usually wrong imo

idk just got kicked off stage bc the usher thought the cue was later i was mid‑monologue and they shouted 'move' like it was nothing... tbh this happens too often and it ruins the flow anyone else dealt with clueless crew?? rn i’m still salty

so i was at the show last night and the lights start flickering just as the actors are about to hit the big finale and the crew just can't get them to stay on?? i swear the electrician's on a coffee break or something?? it's like a plot twist in the lighting?? anyone else feel the same??
