Why does my Garmin Fenix 7 battery drop to 5% after 2 hours on the AT despite Low Power Mode?
I spent three days on the AT (Mile 210‑212) using a Garmin Fenix 7 with Low Power Mode enabled. After about 2 hours of continuous GPS tracking, the battery fell from 100% to 5% and shut down. I followed the recommended settings:
- GPS + GLONASS enabled
- Heart rate sensor off
- Backlight set to auto, timeout 5 seconds
- All notifications disabled
- Power manager set to "UltraTrac"
The same settings on a previous trip (last spring) gave me ~24 hours of runtime. This time the temperature was 45 °F, no extreme cold. I swapped the battery (new OEM) and re‑flashed the firmware to version 15.00.2. Still the same rapid drain.
Has anyone seen this behavior with the Fenix 7 on long hikes? Could a faulty GPS antenna cause excess draw, or is there a hidden setting I’m missing? Any diagnostics steps or firmware tweaks would be appreciated.
- Model: Garmin Fenix 7 Solar, 1.3" display
- Firmware: 15.00.2
- Battery: 1.5 Ah OEM replacement
Thanks.
how i squeezed 30% extra battery life out of my galaxy s23 ultra with a custom kernel tweak
tbh so i took the stock kernel on my s23 ultra and flashed a modified one that throttles the cpu spikes when the screen is off tbh the battery stats now show ~2.8 days standby vs 2 days before
key changes:
- disabled deep sleep wake‑locks for background sync (adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable)
- lowered max freq of the exynos 2200 to 2.2ghz when screen off (set via /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq)
- patched the power HAL to ignore wakelocks from com.google.android.gms (biggest drain)
i also added a tiny script that runs every 30m to clear the radio cache (rm /data/misc/radio/*) which cuts the 3g/5g ping jitter and saves a few mAh
download the zip here: https://example.com/s23ultra‑tweak‑v1.0.zip (use magisk manager to flash)
anyone else tried similar tweaks? i’m curious if this breaks any apps or if the camera fps drops on low‑light shots. drop your thoughts, i’ll keep tweaking based on feedback lol
How do I keep my Pixel 8 Pro battery alive during a 50-mile run without throttling?
i just finished a 50-mile ultra marathon in 3:12 but my pixel 8 pro died after 30 minutes of continuous gps and music playback tbh the battery life is a joke rn
the phone has a 5000mah li-po and an oled display that should be efficient yet the cpu governor flips to performance mode when the gps kicks in causing thermal throttling and a 30% drop in battery percentage per hour
i tried disabling background sync turning off bluetooth and using the power saving mode but even then the battery hit 20% in 25 minutes
i also used a garmin forerunner 955 to track the run but the phone still drained faster than the watch which only used 5% of its 600mah battery over the same distance
anyone else experiencing this or is there a way to tweak the android 13 settings or use a usb-c pd 100w charger to keep the phone alive during long runs? maybe a custom kernel or a different battery saver app would help lol
p.s if anyone wants to know how i managed to finish the run in record time just let me know but for now i’m just hoping the phone can keep up
why does my galaxy s23 ultra battery drain so fast after 1 month of use?
i've had my s23 ultra for like a month and the 5000mAh battery is already a joke tbh. i charge it to 100% and within 2 hrs i'm at 40% and the UI shows background apps like samsung daily board and some random adware hogging cpu. i disabled adaptive battery but still the drain is insane. i switched to a 45w charger and it still heats up like a toaster. i thought the exynos 2200 would be efficient but it's just a power hog. i even tried a custom kernel to trim the bloat, no luck. why does samsung keep pushing this nonsense when the iphone 15 pro barely drops below 80% after a full day? i need validation that i'm not the only one dealing with this garbage, and maybe some tips to actually fix it without rooting the whole thing. rn i’m considering dumping it for a pixel 8 pro because at least that thing respects my battery lol.
Which phone under $500 gives the best battery life and camera quality?
I need a device that stays alive for a full day on a single charge, can handle a few heavy games, and still takes decent photos in low light. The price cap is $500, so I'm looking at a lot of mid‑range options. I've seen a few models highlighted—some say the Galaxy A54 is good, others swear by the iPhone SE 2023. I want people who actually use these phones daily to weigh in. What are the real-world differences in battery endurance, camera performance, and build quality? Also, if you have seen any major battery degradation or camera sensor issues within the first year, let me know. I’m not looking for a generic list; I want specific experiences and honest opinions. Thanks.
i totally misread my phone's battery spec???
wow just realized i thought my phone was 4500mAh but the official spec says 3700mAh. yeah i'm clueless about these numbers. anyone else actually caught this mistake before their phone went black fast?
how does the butterfly stroke affect perceived battery life on a samsung galaxy s7 edge?
i was doing butterfly laps in the 25m pool today and the drag coefficient felt oddly similar to my s7 edge's background apps rn?? the hydrodynamic resistance of the water reminded me of the constant sync processes that drain the battery while i'm coding on the go tbh. ip68 rating means the phone can handle the pressure, but the real lesson is that just like a swimmer must streamline to conserve energy, we need to trim unnecessary services to extend our phone's runtime... i tried disabling bixby and the impact was as noticeable as reducing stroke count on a fatigued set imo. any other devs notice this parallel or is it just my brain overthinking??
Which EV battery chemistry will win by 2030: LFP, NMC, or solid-state?
I’ve been diving into some recent papers where quantum‑computing simulations are speeding up the discovery of new electrode materials. It’s making the whole battery landscape feel like a moving target.
Quick poll for the community:
- LFP (LiFePO4) – Low cost, good thermal stability, but lower energy density.
- NMC (LiNiMnCoO2) – Higher energy density, widely used in current production models.
- Solid‑state – The next‑gen tech that could double range but still needs scaling.
Which one do you think will dominate mainstream EVs by 2030? Cast your vote below and drop a comment if you have a favorite model or a quick anecdote about a battery swap you’ve seen.
Your input will help keep the conversation grounded in what’s actually on the road today.
Which flagship Android phone has the most annoying battery drain issue in 2024? (Pixel 8 Pro vs Samsung S24 Ultra vs OnePlus 12)
Alright, I've been juggling three flagship beasts this month and the battery stats are driving me nuts???
- Pixel 8 Pro – 5,000 mAh, but after the latest Android 14.2 update the screen seems to stay at 45 % after just an hour of light browsing. Anyone else seeing that weird "wake‑lock" spike in the battery‑usage graph?
- Samsung S24 Ultra – 5,100 mAh, yet the Adaptive Refresh Rate seems to be stuck at 120 Hz even on the lock screen, chewing power like mad. My battery hits 30 % in 90 min of standby…
- OnePlus 12 – 5,200 mAh, OxygenOS 13.1.2 claims aggressive optimization, but the background sync for "OnePlus Cloud" is apparently a battery vampire. My night‑time charge barely reaches 80 %.
I'm setting up a quick poll: which of these phones has the worst real‑world drain? Vote, drop your own mAh‑vs‑usage screenshots if you have ’em, and feel free to roast the firmware updates that seem to sabotage us. Bonus points for anyone who can explain the weird "kernel wakelock" thing on the Pixel – I'm lost.
Poll options:
- Pixel 8 Pro
- Samsung S24 Ultra
- OnePlus 12
Your insights might actually help me decide whether to keep the Pixel alive or finally surrender to a new iPhone (yeah, I know, betrayal vibes). Let the debate begin!!
