Do elite swimmers double their underwater kicks on every lap?

Been watching some world champs videos, and everyone seems to be punching the water like they're trying to sprint in a tube. I tried adding an extra dolphin kick after each turn, but it left me gasping for air mid‑set. Is cranking the kicks like that actually normal for top athletes or am I just overthinking a trick? How many kicks do you normally do per length? Do you ever feel like it’s just a hype thing the commentators throw at us??

Why does my local rent control policy seem to raise prices instead of lowering them?

I've been tracking apartment rents in my city since the rent control ordinance passed last year. Contrary to the intended effect, average rents have climbed about 8% while vacancy rates have dropped. The official justification cites “housing scarcity,” but the data doesn't add up. Is there a standard economic explanation for this backfire, or am I misreading the market signals? Any rigorous analysis or references would be appreciated.

Why the 'objectivity' myth is a journalistic dead end

People keep preaching that journalists must be 100% objective, but that's a fantasy that does more harm than good. The moment you demand pure neutrality you strip the story of context, you force reporters into a sterile copy-paste of facts that readers can't relate to. Real journalism is about interpreting, about making sense of chaos, not about pretending the world is a clean spreadsheet.

When editors push for "balanced" pieces they often end up giving equal weight to a fringe view and a well‑established fact, just to check a box. That creates false equivalence and confuses the audience. If you want credibility, you need to be honest about the lenses you bring to the story, not hide behind a bogus claim of objectivity.

So stop polishing every article until it looks like a neutral mirror. Embrace the responsibility to explain, to argue, to take a stance when the evidence demands it. The audience will respect you more for owning your perspective than for pretending you have none.

pool schedule mess

so the varsity pool changed the schedule again and no one bothered to notify us... i mean what's the point of even having a schedule if they just gonna change it on a whim?? i had my whole routine planned out and now i gotta redo everything... and the communication is basically nonexistent... does anyone else have to deal with this??

Nutrition mistake

I'm going to admit something and I'm a bit annoyed at myself, I've been reading up on a recent article about the optimal daily intake of protein for athletes and I think I may have been misinforming people on the importance of timing. From what I've read, the idea that you need to consume protein within an hour after a Workout to maximize muscle growth might be overhyped. This has pretty major implications if you're trying to get the nutrition side of things down, anyone care to jump in and give their thoughts? Maybe I've got this completely wrong and can get some clarity

Nutrition after a long swim, anyone else find it hard to find convenient options?

I was out for a 2 hour swim this evening and was really looking forward to a protein shake when I got home Problem is, my usual spot for a post-workout smoothie is closed after 8 PM. Has anyone else run into this issue? What's your go-to for nutrition after a late swim? I've been relying on energy bars but I know they're not the best option. Should I just carry a cooler with me next time?
