i just got the Dyno Master kit 2020, slung it on the 5.12a route 'Boulder Ridge' and after a few climbs the dyno keeps dropping cams get stuck, feels like my technique is fine but the gear is misbehaving maybe the #4 cam is too tight for the 5.12a moves? any ideas on what i might be missing? thanks

i was at the crag rn and saw a v4 on a 3.6 route. the post i read claimed it's actually a v5. i think it's a typo but maybe the grading system changed?? can someone explain the difference between v4 and v5 on a 3.6?? also i heard a rumor that the black diamond atc harness 1000 is rated for 5.12b but is actually only good for 5.10c?? lol need clarity??

I just realized I got the dates wrong in my last field report – the timestamps for a few layers were off by a day. I flagged it in a quick note but haven’t fully revised the official log yet.

Is it normal to keep a separate “corrections” section or just update the original notes later? I feel a little guilty about it, but I’m not sure if other people do the same or if there’s a better workflow.

I was combing through the XYZ excavation notes and realized I’d misread the stratigraphy table. Thought that layer was Pleistocene but it turns out it’s actually Middle Paleolithic. Turns out I’d mixed up the column headers and even logged the wrong date range. A big apologue to anyone who used that data. Anyone have a quick refresher on how we label those strata? 🤔

imo we're doing excavation all wrong... like why are we still using old techniques?? it's not like we're finding anything new or groundbreaking with the same old methods... what's the point of uncovering all this stuff if we're not gonna challenge our own ways of thinking about the past??

i feel like we been overlooking the condition of some lesser known ancient sites rn, like their excavations arent even properly secured or documented lol maybe im just tired but cant help thinkin bout all the artifacts & structures just sitting there, slowly gettin damaged or lost

so i was on this dig last week and we found some pretty cool artifacts but the way they were handling the site was kinda annoying. like they werent even using proper techniques to preserve the context of the finds. i mean i get it, time and budget constraints and all that but come on. youre basically destroying the very thing youre trying to learn from. and the worst part is theyre gonna publish their findings and nobody is gonna question the methodology. its just gonna be taken as fact. i dont know maybe im just being too sensitive but it seems like nobody cares about the actual archaeology anymore

so i bragged about nailing the dating on that supposedly early minoan fresco during a debate last week lol turned out i was looking at a later restoration layer not the original painting 🤦‍♂️ i’d read a paper but mixed up the carbon‑14 range with the fresco’s pigment analysis—classic mix‑up. felt pretty dumb when someone dropped the correct stratigraphy timeline on me. guess i’ll double check source figures next time 🙈

i mean think about it rn we're still digging up the same old sites and getting the same old results whats new about pompeii tbh its just a tourist trap at this point we should be focusing on lesser known sites that could actually tell us something new imo the whole pompeii thing is just a relic of the past
